Vols fourth among teams also receiving votes in coaches’ Top 25

Tennessee’s 55-10 win over Football Championship Subdivision opponent Western Carolina wasn’t enough to get the Vols back in the USA Today Coaches Top 25, but the Vols were fourth among teams also receiving votes.

Tennessee had 49 points in the poll, which was 30 points short of No. 25 Auburn. West Virginia (75), Brigham Young (74) and Miami, Fla. (58) also stood in between the Vols and the Top 25.

The positioning of the SEC teams in the poll changed significantly thanks to Ole Miss’s win over Alabama and LSU’s win over Auburn. Ole Miss moved up six spots to No. 5 and Georgia moved up two spots to No. 6. LSU moved up five spots to No. 9. Alabama fell 10 spots to No. 12, and Auburn fell 10 spots to No. 25. Texas A&M went up three spots to No. 15 and Missouri fell three spots to No. 23.
