Sometime during a Big Orange Caravan stop back, perhaps way back, in the day, coaches would be thinking about their remarks that night and would ask one of the staff minions a very pertinent question.
If the Caravan were in Jackson, the question might pertain to Jackson area players, past or present, or other dignitaries, perhaps the mayor of Jackson or a state legislator or two, who might be in the crowd.
A list was quickly assembled and incorporated into whatever the coach might have said from the podium or while “working the crowd,” to pull out an old political term.
It wasn’t a big deal.
It did avoid a great many sticky situations.
Things were different in those days, in so many ways.
