20th Anniversary Activities

April 8 through September 2, 2002 ‚ "When the World Came to Knoxville: The 1982 World's Fair" ‚ an exhibit at the East Tennessee Historical Society Museum chronicling the efforts to bring the fair to Knoxville and its legacy in the region. The exhibit includes artifacts from some of the pavilions, including the giant Rubic's Cube that stood outside the Hungarian Pavilion, photos, documents, souvenirs, memorabilia, and other artifacts. The ETHS Museum is located in the East Tennessee History Center in downtown Knoxville. Special events will be held throughout the exhibit's run at the ETHS Museum to tie-in with the Worldís Fair theme. The exhibit is sponsored by the City of Knoxville.

April 28, 2002 ‚ The Dogwood Arts Festival's closing ceremonies will include activities to commemorate the fair.

June 22, 2002 ‚ A downtown street party, Saturday Night on the Town, will also tie-in with the fair's anniversary.

October, 2002 - The new Knoxville Convention Center will celebrate its grand opening on the World's Fair Park. The new convention center has been a major part of the redesign of the World's Fair Park over the last two years and replaces the old exposition center still located on the park. The new convention center incorporates the Sunsphere tower into the architecture of the structure. A major relandscaping and redesign of the World's Fair Park is also underway and should be completed sometime in 2003.
