New mayors pledge support for Pellissippi Place

IMG00152.jpgWith some 200 business and political leaders from the Knoxville-region watching, the lights came on Tuesday evening at Pellissippi Place, the mixed-use tech park under development in Alcoa.

 A glitch-free “Lighting of the Park” ceremony was important, but perhaps more important was the pledge of support the 450-acre project received from newly elected local government leaders.

The mixed-use project is being funded by $5 million investments by four different local governments — Knox and Blount counties and the cities of Alcoa and Maryville.

Knoxville company mutes World Cup vuvuzelas

South+Africa+Soccer+WCup+Sp.jpgFor World Cup viewers annoyed by the unyielding buzz of the vuvuzela trumpets, Waves Audio has a solution.

The technology company with offices in Knoxville and Tel-Aviv, Israel, has developed a filtering product that broadcasters can use to diminish the trumpet blasts and at the same time “bring out the intelligibility of the announcers” and enhance sounds coming from the field itself, said Tim Holbert, internal sales and customer support manager.

Notice that he said “intelligibility” and not intelligence.

The filter is actually two of Waves Audio’s existing products — WNS Waves Noise Suppressor and the Q10 Paragraphic Equalizer — that when used together are effective in filtering out the constant drone of the South African trumpet.
