Morristown recently landed a potential big deal — Freedom Energy Diesel’s proposed $405 million coal gasification plant that would create an estimated 600 jobs.
Freedom Energy still has a number of hoops to jump through, but the plant would be a major boost for the regional economy if it happens.
It’s good that Morristown stands to benefit, but the project could have come to Knox County.
Saratoga Technologies, a Knoxville-based information technology solutions company, has opened an office in Morristown, the company’s fifth location.
Saratoga acquired an existing company’s location and client list, but it is not adding any full-time employees, said Ron Jenkins, Saratoga’s chief operations officer.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
“We will be servicing everything out of the office in Knoxville, which we already do for clients up there,” Jenkins said.
The Morristown office is at 161 West Main St.
