Whether cash or jelly, holiday bonuses disappearing

 

Used to be that year-end bonuses were pretty much a lock for most workers. Not any more.
CurrencyCorporate America has moved away from bonuses in recent years and 2011 will be no different.

In a recent survey by the global outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, 43 percent of HR executives said their companies do not hand out bonuses. That’s a big jump from 2007 when only 28 percent of companies did not give holiday bonuses.

Of the companies that do award year-end bonuses, half give non-monetary gifts or a monetary award of less than $100, the survey found.

Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone has a great Christmas.

It’s been a special holiday season at our house. We’ve had visits from family and we’re headed to see the grandkids next week.

We had a bit of excitement a couple of days ago when the chimney caught fire. Thankfully, it burned itself out and there was no damage.

Here’s a “thank-you” to the crew from Rural Metro that checked to make sure the chimney was safe to use.

Poll: Holiday shoppers ‘enthusiastic’ but spending less

With the Christmas shopping season entering the stretch run, Consumer Repor112510blackfri26.mc.jpgts’ latest survey offers an interesting look at consumer attitudes.

Half of us are “enthusiastic” about the holiday shopping season, but almost one-third of Americans say they are worse off financially than they were last year, according to the Consumer Reports Holiday Shopping Poll.
