A bill that would make it easier for states to collect sales taxes on Internet purchases – the Main Street Fairness Act – was filed only a few days ago, but the PR battle is already heating up.
Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., introduced the legislation on Friday. Similar legislation was filed last year.
Lobbying for and against the current version of the bill is already in full voice. The early flurry of statements from both sides focuses on what it all means for small businesses.
