Tennessee — retiree tax heaven

Tennessee’s tax-friendly reputation makes it one of the best states for retirees looking to reduce their tax burden, according to a report by Kiplinger.com.

Tennessee has no broad-based income tax, so salaries, wages, Social Security benefits, IRA distributions and pension income are not taxed. But the state does levy a 6 percent tax on stock dividends and interest income from bonds and other investments,” the report says.

Tennessee missing in Sustainability Rankings

Tennessee is nowhere to be found on Site Selection magazine’s inaugural Sustainability Rankings  announced today.

The West Coast dominates the list with California, Washington and Oregon holding down the top three places.

The magazine looked at green initiatives underway in states and metro areas and ranked their efforts according to specific criteria.

Tennessee may not be doing great on the green meter, but at least our state budget isn’t broke like California. Not yet, anyway.
