Nominations open for annual Pinnacle Business Awards


Nominations for the Knoxville Chamber’s 10th annual Pinnacle Business Awards are now open.
The nominations will be accepted through 5 p.m. Feb. 28. The awards recognize the achievements of top businesses and entrepreneurs in the Knoxville area.
You do not have to be a Chamber member to nominate a company for an award.
Award categories are: Young Entrepreneur, Small Business Excellence, Minority-Owned Business Excellence, Woman-Owned Business Excellence, Business Excellence, Innovator and Impact .
The awards will be presented May 2 at the Pinnacle Awards Gala, which will be held at the Knoxville Convention Center.
The highlight of the event is typically presentation of the James A. Haslam II Leadership Award, which is given to a business leader who “exhibits strength in character, resolve and a commitment to the community and exemplary success in the regional business community,” according to the Chamber website.

Schmooz next week with your business friends

The fifth version of Schmoozapalooza, the Knoxville Chambers’ networking extravaganza, will be held Sept. 29 at Turkey Creek Public Market, 11221 Outlet Drive.

Exhibitors include dozens of big and small companies from throughout the area. Previous schmooz fests have attracted hundreds of biz people looking to connect with potential vendors, customers and employers.

Eat, drink and be merry at Schmoozapalooza IV

Get out of the rain and party with hundreds of your closest friends tomorrow afternoon at Schmoozapalooza IV, the Knoxville Chamber’s popular networking event .

The event is 4-7 p.m. at 1511 Downtown West Blvd. in the former Food City location.

More than 50 businesses are listed as exhibitors on the chamber website.

Agreement to benefit Hispanic Chamber of East Tennessee

Members of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of East Tennessee now have a new resource to help them grow.

VelazquezLuis.jpg.jpgThe Hispanic Chamber on Tuesday signed an inter-chamber agreement with the Tennessee Small Business Development Centers that will provide Hispanic business owners free advice on developing a business plan, loans, taxes and other business matters.

Meeting set on Knoxville trade with Japan

Developing business connections between companies in Knoxville and Kitakyushu, Japan  will be the focus of a meeting Thursday at the Knoxville Chamber.

A business delegation from Kitakyushu will be in town to meet with local businesses and government officials to talk about trade opportunities.

Any chamber member can attend, but the focus of the meeting will be on environmental- and energy-related business.

Small biz honored at Market Square event

Knoxville small business will be the focus of a special event today at 4:30 p.m. on Market Square. The Knoxville Chamber will recognize five local companies that recently received awards from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

The companies are Prestige Cleaners, winner of the national Community Excellence Award, and Blue Ribbon Small Business Award winners Construction Plus and Knowledge Launch and Free Enterprise Honorees ES&H Inc. and NetGain Corp.

The celebration will be held on the main stage unless it’s raining, in which case the event will move inside to the Chamber office, 17 Market Square.


Knoxville companies receive U.S. Chamber awards

Five Knoxville area companies were honored today by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce at the America’s Small Business Summit in Washington, D.C.

Prestige Cleaners received the Community Excellence Award, the Knoxville Chamber announced.

The award is given to a small business “that demonstrates excellence in the eyes of its community, customers, and employees,” according to the release. The award is based on the number of online votes received.

Chamber blasts Rep. Niceley

In an unusual move that will undoubtedly have sparks flying in Nashville, the Knoxville Chamber today labeled state Rep. Frank Niceley as ‘hostile to business.’

The chamber detailed its objections to five bills sponsored by the Strawberry Plains Republican that, in the words of the chamber, would be ” burdensome to businesses and limit economic development.”

I don’t recall the chamber ever being this harsh and slapping this label on a local Rep.
