Coaster Con headed for Dollywood

0529_kclo_tourism.JPGHundreds of roller coaster enthusiasts from around the world are headed to Dollywood this weekend for Coaster Con XXXV, the American Coaster Enthusiasts’ 2012 convention.

The event starts Sunday and runs through June 22.

Some 650 coaster lovers are expected to attend, said Pete Owens, media/public relations manager for The Dollywood Co.

American Coaster Enthusiasts has more than 5,000 members from 16 countries, according to its website. This is the first time Coaster Con has come to Dollywood. The coaster convention also includes Carowinds park in Fort Mill, S.C.

It’s going to be a busy weekend for Dollywood. On Saturday, Dollywood officials will announce a major expansion at Dollywood’s Splash Country water park.

Owens would only say the expansion will be “a first for Tennessee” and the largest in Splash Country’s history.
