The Tennessee Valley Authority is one of two Tennessee employers selected as finalists for the
2012 Freedom Award, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense agency, announced today.
Marketing firm iostudio of Nashville was also selected as a finalist.
The Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award is given to employers in recognition of their support of employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
Nationwide 30 employers were selected as finalists from more than 3,200 employers nominated by Guard and Reserve members, or family members acting on their behalf, according to a news release.
Knoxville-based TVA was nominated by an Army Reserve employee. The federal utility “sent 4,000 care packages to service members overseas. TVA supports its Guard and Reserve employees by training supervisors on military employment and reemployment laws, and posting information about these policies in employee break rooms and company newsletters,” the release says.
Fifteen Freedom Award winners will be announced this summer and honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. in September.
Today’s other TVA headline hasn’t been so pleasant for the utility.
