TVA and Eastman Chemical are among three Tennessee companies named semifinalists for the 2012 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award.
The award is the highest recognition given by the Department of Defense to employers for their support of employees who are members of the National Guard and Reserve.
Nationwide, 133 employers were selected as semifinalists from more than 3,200 nominations, according to Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Defense Department agency.
Employees who are members of the Guard and Reserve nominate their employers for the award.
Knoxville-based TVA is a government-owned utility that provides electricity to 9 million people in parts of seven states across the southeast. Kingsport-based Eastman, a global producer of chemicals, plastics, and fibers, has about 10,000 employees worldwide.
The third Tennessee company named a semifinalist is marketing agency iostudio in Nashville.
A review board comprised of military and civilian leaders next month will select 30 nominees as finalists for the award, ESGR said in a news release.
Fifteen award recipients will be announced early this summer and honored Sept. 20 at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.,
