New low-fare airline coming to Knoxville

The battle of low-fare airlines is heating up in Knoxville.

The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority said it will make a “major announcement” on Wednesday about “a new low fare air airline coming to McGhee Tyson Airport.”

The newcomer will join an ever-growing roster of low fare airlines serving McGhee Tyson.

Vision Airlines, the newest member of the low fare club, will launch Knoxville-to-Northwest Florida service on March 25 and is considering adding flights to Las Vegas.

Other low fare carriers serving Knoxville include Allegiant Air and AirTran Airways.

Southwest Airlines announced last year that it planned to buy AirTran.
