Knoxville Chamber executive Doug Lawyer is in Kitakyushu, Japan this week to market Innovation Valley and seek out business opportunities for Knoxville area companies.
So far, he’s been briefed on Kitakyushu’s solar R&D efforts and met with the city’s industrial development team.
Lawyer, the chamber’s vice president of economic development, is blogging about what he sees and hears.
A business delegation from Kitakyushu was in Knoxville last July to meet with local businesses and government officials to talk about trade opportunities.
Here’s some of Lawyer’s musings from Day 1 in Kitakyushu:
“After a semi-restful night of sleep, I started this morning with a visit to Kitakyushu’s new research and development park. The city partnered with four area universities and literally moved a mountain, which was placed in the sea, as the foundation of their new airport. The park opened 10 years ago and is now home to 56 companies doing collaborative R&D with the universities.”
“Wouldn’t it be amazing for Cherokee Farm to have same results in a decade!”
