Scripps Networks ends plans for India expansion

Scripps Networks Interactive won’t be launching a lifestyle TV network in India, the company said today.

Talks with New Delhi Television Limited ended Monday.

Scripps Networks announced in November it would invest $55 million to acquire a 69 percent interest in NDTV Lifestyle, the lifestyle unit of India broadcaster NDTV Group.

However, the companies could not reach agreement on terms. Scripps Networks did not say exactly what killed the deal.

Scripps Networks production headquarters are based in Knoxville and its corporate headquarters are in Cincinnati.

The company has been pushing international expansion in recent months. Earlier this year the company announced a licensing agreement with London-based Passion Distribution.

The announcement said Passion would license Food Network, HGTV and DIY Network programming.

In the interest of full disclosure, it should be noted that I own a small amount of Scripps Networks stock. Emphasis on small.
