Gameday 13 is the same set up as in 2010. Vols have to win the
last regular season game against Kentucky in order to go to a bowl
game and get a much needed extra month of practice for a young football
team. Some sports scribes seem to think last week was the challenge
and once the Vandy win was in the books, beating Kentucky is a formality.
I don’t really see it that way as Kentucky appears to have enough left
in the tank to get after the Vols on Gameday 13. I was in Sanford Stadium
last week & saw Kentucky take that game into the 4th quarter against UGA.
Kentucky had to leave Athens feeling pretty good about themselves and
their chances on their home field against Tennessee. Bray should be closer
to his old self on Gameday 13 as he clearly was rusty last week against
Vandy. Bray having his A game in Lexington is crucial for the Vols in this
matchup. Kentucky has stuggled to score points and the Vols need to make
sure they get enough on the board that the Vol defense won’t have their backs
against the wall. The Vol defense has shown signs of improvement but they’re
getting pretty nicked up in the secondary. Injuries are part of the game but
as a Vol fan, you hope the Vol offense takes some pressure off a patched up
Vol defense against Kentucky. If the Vols can make it 27 in a row over
Kentucky, it’ll be Nashville or Memphis for the holidays. That would be a good
outcome for this Vol team and I suspect the fans will turn out like last year
with good support for a bowl appearance. It’s been a tough season but the young
Vols are beginning to show signs they might have the players to make some noise
in 2012. First things first, let’s take care of some important busines in blue
grass country on Gameday 13. And if that happens, let’s hope Dooley and the
Vols have another locker room party but without any rogue videos of the head
coach smack talking being posted on YouTube.
