Gameday 4 Vol Stuff (9/26/09)

Best case, tonight is a tune-up for the upcoming tough SEC October gauntlet the Vols are about to run.  Worse case, this turns into a nail-biter where Ohio stacks everybody on the line and the Vols are unable to respond in the passing game.  I don’t know much about Ohio but they’ve beaten Kentucky twice and took it to the Buckeyes in the horse shoe.  Apparently they’re capable of doing some damage against BCS conference teams.  I hope TN doesn’t get added to that list.  If the Vols cannot get the vertical passing game in gear to stretch the defenses, they’ve got to find playmakers that can turn the short passes into big plays.  It sounds like Kiffin wants more Oku & Nu’Keese snaps, those should be 2 guys capable of making plays with their speed.  Brown has been really close when TN has gotten him on the edge with the sweep or pass into the flat.  He’s going to get better and start breaking some plays for long TD’s.  Some re-shuffling this week on the right side of the Vol O-line hopefully will produce the efficiency on that side that the Vols are getting out of the left side.  Let’s all hope tonight’s game is one where the defense gets lots of help from their offense and special teams teammates.  If so, the Vols should be able to work on improving specific areas of their offense and increasing gameday experience for some of the younger players that should pay off starting next week when Auburn comes calling.
