Beverly Marrero for the (U.S.) Senate?

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Democratic state Sen. Beverly Marrero says she’s “stunned” by an online effort to draft her to run for the U.S. Senate this year.
Marrero has been a vocal critic of the legislative redistricting plan that places her in the same Memphis district as fellow Democratic Sen. Jim Kyle.
She said Wednesday that the calls for her to instead run against Republican U.S. Sen. Bob Corker this year are a “very lovely gesture” and said she’s not ready to rule anything out.
Marrero was elected to the state Senate in 2007 after serving six years in the House. She is 72.
The candidate filing deadline is April 5.

On David Keith for State Senate (endorsed by Jamie Woodson?)

Back in February, Senate Speaker Pro Tempore Jamie Woodson sponsored a resolution bestowing the General Assembly’s official recognition and appreciation upon actor David Keith for being a man “wholly committed to the noble precepts of public service.”
Here’s the “resolving clause” from SJR49:
“Now, therefore, be it resolved that David Keith be recognized and commended for his invaluable efforts in positively impacting the lives of families and children in Tennessee and throughout the nation. We extend our deepest gratitude for his admirable service as Campaign Chairman of the National Association to Protect Children and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
Now, as noted by blogger Sean Braisted, it appears that some folks want Democrat Keith’s “future endeavors” to include a run for Knoxville Republican Woodson’s state Senate seat – at least on Facebook.
Woodson, whose resignation is to take effect July 9, has declared she will play no role – privately or publicly – in the election of her successor.
The draft -Keith movement seems a rather far-fetched proposition. But, hey, if you’re into conspiracy theories…. Well, I’m just saying….
The Senate Republican Caucus even put out a press release on the honoring of Keith, including praise from Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett as well as Woodson. It’s available below.
