Incumbent U.S. Rep. Diane Black and her chief opponent in the 6th Congressional District Republican primary, Joe Carr, offer competing approaches to solicitation of votes from firearms fans, as illustrated in the following two campaign press releases.
News release from Diane Black campaign:
GALLATIN, TN – Today, the Diane Black for Congress campaign announced the endorsement of the National Rifle Association’s Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF), awarded for Diane’s strong support of 2nd Amendment rights.
In its endorsement letter, the NRA touted Diane’s “A” rating, distinguishing her as a “solidly pro-gun legislator” and noted that she has “stood strong against President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s gun control agenda.”
Diane Black released the following statement on the endorsement:
“President Obama and Congressional Democrats are relentless in their attempts to subvert the 2nd Amendment and strip Americans of their fundamental right to keep and bear arms. We need conservatives in Congress who will fight just as hard to protect these freedoms from government attack. For me, this isn’t political – it’s personal. As I shared recently, I obtained my handgun carry permit after becoming the victim of physical assault nearly 20 years ago. I know that the 2nd Amendment safeguards an individual’s right to defend themselves and the people they love – and that is a right we can’t afford to lose. I am grateful for the NRA’s endorsement in this election and look forward to continuing my work to uphold Tennesseans’ gun rights in Congress,” said Diane Black.
The NRA’s endorsement coincides with the release of the Diane Black for Congress campaign’s latest radio ad, which details Diane’s personal story of physical assault and how she later obtained her handgun carry permit as a means of self defense. News release from Joe Carr campaign:
SIXTH DISTRICT, TENNESSEE. (JUNE 23, 2016)- On Saturday (July 2, 2016) 6th District Congressional Candidate Joe Carr will feature an AR-15 drawing at Ralph Bristol’s “2nd Amendment is Homeland Security” event at Charlie Daniels Park (Mt. Juliet, TN). Joe Carr is a lifetime member of the Tennessee Firearms Association (TFA), and believes the 2nd Amendment is about the responsibility and obligation of each American to protect their, “life, liberty, and property”.
“In the wake of the Supreme Court unwilling to hear a case on Connecticut’s unconstitutional ban of some semi-automatic guns we are one administration away from losing our 2nd Amendment Rights. While the current administration, Hillary Clinton, and those on the left continue their mission to disarm Americans I will not sit quietly, and that is why I am featuring our AR-15 drawing at the “2nd Amendment is Homeland Security event on July 2, 2016” said Joe Carr.
Carr later went on to say, “When our Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence with the last line stating “We Mutually Pledge to Each Other Our Lives, Our Fortunes, and Our Sacred Honor” they were willing to lose everything for the idea of America. Part of the idea that is America is the right, indeed the obligation to defend your, “life, liberty and property”. I will not allow the vision of these brave men to die in vain. Without the 2nd Amendment we will lose our nation.”
The event will start at 10:00 AM and Joe Carr will also be serving free hot dogs and beverages to those in attendance. The drawing for the Elite Arms AR-15 will take place on July 4, 2016. In order to be eligible for the drawing you must pass a background check. To register for the drawing please visit: Carr4Congress.com.
