News release from Tennessee Democratic Party
Paris, Tenn. — Daniel Powell, a resident of Henry County and a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin, announced today that he will run as a Democrat for the Tennessee House of Representative for the 75th District. State House District 75 includes Henry, Benton and Stewart Counties.
Daniel Powell is a native of Cottage Grove and a graduate of Henry County High School. He currently works for the Henry County Sheriff’s Department in Paris.
Powell has already pick up his qualifying papers and is currently in the process of filing them with state officials. The seat that Powell will be running to fill is currently held by Republican Rep. Tim Wirgau of Buchanan.
Powell emphasized that a State Representative must be focused on problem solving and be the voice of the people they represent, not of the special interest and millionaire donors.
“Ordinary Tennesseans in my district deserve affordable, quality healthcare through Insure Tennessee. They need a leader who will focus on ensuring the state government is effective and accountable to them. They need someone who will support equal pay for equal work, investments in our public schools and in our public infrastructure.”
“Powell continued, I am focused on moving past political gridlock and the misplaced priorities of our current elected officials in Tennessee. At a time when polls show that most Tennesseans are less satisfied with their standard of living and more likely to say it is getting worse, we need a leader who is focused on solving problems and making the lives of ordinary Tennesseans better.”
