Rep. Halford has GOP challenge in House District 79

Daniel Williams of Huntington, a retired U.S. Post Office employee, has announced his candidacy in the Republican primary for the House District 79 seat now held by House Agriculture Committee Chairman Curtis Halford, R-Dyer.

On his website, Williams declares himself a “strict constitutionalist” who will support “open carry” for gun owners, “fight against common core” and oppose refugee resettlement in Tennessee.

Daniel Williams retired US government Postal and government employee announces candidacy for State Representative for District 79, Gibson and Carroll Counties. Daniel was former Postmaster of Huntingdon, Dresden, and Union City. Daniel is a lifelong resident of Carroll County. Daniel and his wife Joyce have three children and 15 grandchildren. He attended UTM and graduated from Bethel University with a degree in Business administration organizational management. His post graduate education with Nashville School of Law. His pre-retirement jobs with the postal service included Postmaster of Morristown TN and Brunswick Ga, Manager Customer Services Augusta, GA., Manager Customer Services Fort Lauderdale, FL, Workforce Analysis Manager Washington, DC, and assistant to Manager of Human Resources Nashville TN. He also worked in the US Department of Interior and the US Department of Commerce in post-retirement years.

Daniel’s motto is, “Time for Real Representation”. He pledges to keep you informed; let you know issues; get input and involve you in the decision making in Tennessee government. He is a strict Constitutionalist and believes that the Constitution, “Says what it means and means what it says”. He is a strong supporter of the “Bill of Rights” in the Constitution and will fight for citizens to keep those rights. His views on education are, “return decision making to its lowest level”. He believes “Common Core” was not well conceived but was forced top down without the peoples consent and input. He believes West Tennessee has taken a back seat in money allocations by State Government and will work to fix this. He states, “We need more attention placed on bringing industry and jobs to Gibson and Carroll Counties.

In civic life Daniel is active in civic clubs, Church, has visited nursing homes weekly for the past 10 years leading and playing gospel music.
