Another TN gun giveaway — this one for a gun-related charity, not a campaign

State Rep. Joe Carr says more than 30,000 people signed up for his campaign gun giveaway. (Previous post HERE.) Now the Tennessee Firearms Association is also engaged in a gun giveway. Could be a trend?

Carr is giving away a Beretta automatic pistol. The KelTech KSG being given away by TFA is a short-barreled pump shotgun designed to look like an assault rifle.

Press release from Kel-Tech Weapons and the Tennessee Firearms Association:
Kel-Tec Weapons and the Tennessee Firearms Association have partnered with the Tennessee based charity, Standing With Hope, to give away the highly sought after Kel-Tec KSG shotgun. Proceeds from this sweepstakes will be used to train volunteer and professional caregivers on how to properly handle and secure weapons.

“With more than 100,000 diagnosed cases of Alzheimer’s disease in Tennessee, we are concerned about securing the weapons that belong to those patients—and others who deal with both mental and physical impairments,” notes Peter Rosenberger, president of Standing With Hope.

Working with the Tennessee Firearms Association, Standing With Hope is developing new training and safety awareness programs for caregivers of vulnerable loved ones.

“When a loved one deals with dementia or other debilitating illnesses or injuries, we see an opportunity to train both professional and non-professional caregivers on how to properly secure weapons that belong to that loved one,” states John Harris, executive director for the Tennessee Firearms Association. “In addition, caregivers are at a particular disadvantage when defending against a home invasion or assault. If they are responsible for someone with mobility impairments they can’t simply flee the scene; they have no choice but to stand their ground for themselves and their charge—or become victims. With theft of prescription drugs on the rise, many of our most fragile citizens are easy prey and we want to help them be safer in their own homes.”

Kel-Tec Industries Vice-President Derek Kellgren agrees and is supportive of the unique safety and training focus being developed by the Tennessee Firearms Association and Standing With Hope. “We’ve followed Peter Rosenberger’s message to caregivers for some time, and are happy to work with him and the TFA to promote increased safety and awareness for responsible gun owners in Tennessee.”

Rosenberger, a caregiver advocate, author, and radio show host on 1510 WLAC, has served as a caregiver himself for nearly thirty years for his wife, Gracie, who has endured the amputation of both legs from a 1983 car accident.

“I’m grateful to both Kel-Tec and the TFA,” states Rosenberger. “With proper training and awareness, we can keep more Tennesseans safer. We caregivers invest so much into caring for loved ones, yet gun safety and personal protection is too often pushed to the back burner. With a small investment of time—our homes, lives, and loved ones can be protected against immeasurable heartache and loss.”

The gun promotion launches March 13, 2014 and will continue until April 15, 2014. Winner must be a Tennessee resident, of legal age, and meet all federal guidelines for gun ownership. There is no purchase necessary. The TFA invites contestants to contribute to the Association and Standing With Hope’s flagship prosthetic limb outreach inspired by Gracie’s story. The training program is expected to begin in June 2014.

Registration for the giveaway will also be available on the TN Firearms Association Facebook Page: “tennfirearms.”

The Tennessee Firearms Association is a Tennessee not-for-profit corporation formed to promote the right to keep and bear arms and to educate the citizenry on the responsible use, ownership and carrying of firearms.

Kel-Tec CNC, Inc. is firmly committed to the development and production of original, unique, high- performance firearms. They equally committed to the legal and responsible sale of their products and to the professional and prompt lifetime warranty service of all Kel-Tec products. Specializing in innovative rifle designs and handguns for concealed carry by law enforcement personnel and qualified citizens, Kel-Tec is one of the top five handgun makers in the US—and one of the largest firearms manufacturers in the world.

Inspired by Gracie Rosenberger’s journey and vision, Standing With Hope trains and equips local workers in Ghana to build and maintain prosthetic limbs for their own people. One of Standing With Hope’s more innovative features is the prosthetic limb recycling program serviced by Tennessee inmates who volunteer to disassemble used artificial limbs in order for the parts to be shipped to Ghana.

Drawing upon Peter Rosenberger’s unprecedented experience as his wife’s sole caregiver for 28 years,Standing With Hope is expanding the scope of this Christian outreach to caregivers.

“Dealing with her now 78 operations and $9 million dollars in medical bills, I’ve learned a bit about America’s health care system and the challenges of caregiving,” shares Rosenberger. “Just as Gracie’s vision is to help her fellow amputees, we are now seeking to offer practical help to my fellow caregivers.”
