Ryan-as-VP Talking Points, Recycled for TN

Devaney Cheers
Release from Tennessee Republican Chairman Chris Devaney:
Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Chris Devaney released the following statement on the selection of Paul Ryan as Mitt Romney’s running mate:
“Paul Ryan is the right choice to serve as Governor Romney’s running mate. Ryan has immense experience, including a knowledge and grounding on fiscal issues and the economy, something we are sorely lacking at Pennsylvania Avenue currently. Romney and Ryan will make a great team for the USA.”
Forrester Jeers
Release from Tennessee Democratic Chairman Chip Forrester:
Tennessee Democratic Party Chairman Chip Forrester issued a statement following Mitt Romney’s choice of Rep. Paul Ryan to be his running mate.
“There’s no doubt what Romney-Ryan politics would mean for Tennessee – budget-busting tax breaks for the wealthy, greater burdens for working families, fewer health care options for women, and less security for seniors who’ve worked their whole lives for some peace of mind.
“Tennesseans wholly reject the Romney-Ryan plan to end Medicare as we know it and shift millions of dollars in health care costs to Tennessee seniors through a paltry voucher scheme.
“Our children and our economy simply cannot afford the deep cuts Romney and Ryan want to make education — from Head Start to college aid. These are investments that are critical to a safe and secure future for all Tennesseans.
“The Romney-Ryan ticket would also giveaway a $250,000 tax cut to millionaires and billionaires at a time we should be working together to balance our budget.
“The Romney-Ryan plan is irresponsible and outrageous. Moreover, it’s just plain wrong for Tennessee.”

DesJarlais Delighted
Jasper, Tennessee – Representative Scott DesJarlais, M.D. (TN-04) released the following statement regarding the decision by Governor Romney to name Chairman of the House Budget Committee Paul Ryan (WI-01) as his vice presidential running mate:
“I can think of no better choice for vice president than Representative Paul Ryan. Today’s announcement furthers my optimism that 2013 will bring an opportunity to rebuild the economic strength this country needs and deserves.
“Tennesseans know that we cannot continue to bury the problems facing this nation under a mountain of empty promises and fancy speeches. The road to recovery will require difficult decisions and bold leadership that this president simply cannot provide. Paul has shown that he is willing to put people before politics, new ideas before failed Washington policies and the future of this country above all else.
“Sadly, President Obama and his supporters’ vision of hope and change evolved into the politics of division and demagoguery. We owe it our future generations to not let those who have nothing more to offer than the status quo deter us in our efforts to create a more prosperous future for this great nation.”
DCCC: DesJarlais’ New Running Mate
Release from Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee:
Congressman Scott DesJarlais (TN-04) has a new running mate: Congressman Paul Ryan’s Republican budget that ends Medicare. After Mitt Romney picked Republican Budget Chairman Paul Ryan today, Congressman Scott DesJarlais now has to defend his indefensible vote for the plan Ryan authored to give more tax breaks to millionaires, Big Oil and corporations that ship jobs overseas at the expense of Medicare for seniors. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office found the Ryan-DesJarlais plan would raise health care costs for seniors by $6,400 while the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities found it would cut taxes for people making over $1 million a year by $394,000.
“No matter how hard House Republicans like Congressman Scott DesJarlais may try to run and hide, he can no longer cover up his budget that would deeply cut Medicare so he can give tax breaks to millionaires, Big Oil, and companies shipping jobs overseas,” said Jesse Ferguson of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “The Republican budget is now Congressman DesJarlais’s running mate as he must defend the indefensible – more tax cuts for millionaires and higher health care bills for seniors on Medicare. The American people have rejected Congressman DesJarlais’s support of Ryan’s plan time after time and will do it again this November.”
Alexander Applause
WASHINGTON- U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) released the following statement today on Governor Romney’s selection of U.S. Congressman Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) as his running mate:
“This is Governor Romney’s first major decision as a presidential nominee, and it is a strong one. A Romney-Ryan ticket offers bold leadership that recognizes that our country is one budget agreement away from getting our economy moving again.”
Corker Claps
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bob Corker, R-Tenn., made the following statement today regarding U.S. Congressman Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., Governor Mitt Romney’s running mate.
“Paul Ryan is a bold, outstanding pick,” said Corker. “He’s a true leader with a great family who has shown with courage and commitment that he understands the depth of our country’s fiscal problems and what it’s going to take to address them. By choosing Paul Ryan, Governor Romney has shown that he is absolutely committed to putting our nation’s fiscal issues in the rearview mirror so we can ensure our country’s greatness for generations to come.”
