Dairyman Mayfield Running in 3rd District

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Dairyman Scottie Mayfield has decided to run for the Republican nomination for Congress in the 3rd District.
WRCB-TV quoted Mayfield as saying he will seek the seat now held by first-term Republican Chuck Fleischmann (http://bit.ly/zZjVK6 ). He has no previous experience in politics.
Others in the Republican race are Weston Wamp, son of former Congressman Zach Wamp, and two others.
Two Democrats, Bill Taylor and Mary Headrick, have announced their intentions to run in the district.
This from the Chattanooga TFP:
“I have never served in the armed services, and I feel like this is something that would fulfill that obligation to our country,” Mayfield said Friday. “It’s unusual for someone like me to want to do this. I think I’m the kind of person we need in Washington, D.C.”
Getting there won’t be easy. In fundraising figures released this week, Fleischmann reported more than $619,000 in campaign funds, and Wamp reported $285,000 in the bank. Mayfield said he’ll begin raising money soon, adding that he hasn’t decided whether he’ll use his own money.
