“What’s appealing to me is Bill Haslam’s business experience and wisdom,” Freeman said. “He’s used those skills as mayor, and he’ll bring them to the table as our next governor.”
“I’m looking forward to telling people about Bill Haslam’s Jobs4TN plan and specifically, his Memphis Plan because he’s done the work, discussed these issues with people on the ground and presented a plan that’s representative of a person that listens and then develops real solutions,” Creson said.
“Bill Haslam is the right man at the right time for Tennessee,” Raff said. “He’s strengthened Knoxville, and he has the proven conservative fiscal record the next governor must have in these tough times.”
With recent endorsements from Reagan economist Art Laffer and UT men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl, the announcement of Creson, Freeman and Raff to the leadership team is the latest indication Haslam has the momentum less than 20 days from early voting, which begins July 16. Two recent polls showed Haslam as the strongest Republican in the GOP field, and the campaign recently announced that Mayor Haslam surpassed $8 million in total funds raised from a record number of contributions.
“Having Jayne, Darrell and Newt help out the campaign will be a huge benefit,” Haslam said. “With less than three weeks until early voting begins, their involvement in their communities and across the state will be a great boost to our efforts on the ground.”

    “completing his statewide leadership team.”
Does this strike anyone else as an odd way to characterize these endorsements?
To me it underscores the weakness with this wing of the GOP and points to a growing unease with the Haslam campaign. I look at it as a skybox attitude toward the game of politics.
While cheap seat folks like us bake in the blistering rhetoric, reaching around and over one another for a place at the political table, constantly standing up or sitting down to shout for our candidates competing in the political fracas, the skybox crowd sit comfortably in their air conditioned surrounds, munching on catered tidbits of self-congratulatory pablum and political gossip, comforted in the knowledge that heaven forbid they should loose to the rabble below, they simply have to get out their checkbook. You see it’s all about money and lifestyle to the skyboxers.
I would feel better about the Haslam candidacy if he would just be open and honest about the sources of his wealth. I could be more at ease if that leadership team included not just the captains of industry, but a few privates and corporals as well.
But now it’s too late according to the Haslam campaign. The skybox is fully subscribed, thank goodness safe from the scramble going on down below.
