Chat with News Sentinel Tennessee football beat writer Evan Woodbery
I've booted up the chat a little bit early just to make sure everything's working OK.
If anything looks out of whack, let me know.
For those who don't know, my name's Evan Woodbery. I started with the News Sentinel almost three weeks ago covering Tennessee football. My first day coincided with the first day of football practice, so I haven't had much time to catch my breath, but it's been fun. I'll do my best to answer any questions, but I'll try to be honest too when there are things I just don't know yet.
I did a bunch of these chats in my old life as Auburn beat writer. Sometimes the volume of questions prevented me from getting to everyone. I'm not sure that will be a problem today. I'm a fast typist, so I'll do my best.

Hello new Gribble...tell me, how bad did it suck that Quinn got sent to Italy and you got sent to Milligan?
Yeah, that was kind of funny the way it worked out. Brendan was in Italy, Griff was in London, and I was in Johnson City.
...and Brendan's got a trip to Puerto Rico in November, to boot. The basketball beat does have its advantages.

Good to see the Chat as the season starts. Lathers has been nursing an injury. How does he look to be close to 100% game time?
When we talked to him a couple days ago, he said he was approaching 100 percent but not quite there. I think the main concern with him is that he missed all of last season. I imagine they would have liked to have him go through a couple of scrimmages to knock some of that rust off.
I'd be stunned if he doesn't start in the opener, but I do wonder if it may take some time to get back to the Lathers of old.

ok, well welcome Evan

Welcome to the family Evan, how do you think we line up against the Wolfpack?
I've only done some very early looks at NC State, but I don't think this game is a gimme at all.
The Pack has a veteran QB and an experienced offensive line. This is O'Brien's 6th year there. He's not a flashy coach but I think he's well-respected.
The Pack allowed a ton of sacks last year, but the preview I read said this line is supposed to be the best in O'Brien's tenure. We'll see.
