Mo Couch’s wife says no new updates on his status (tweet)

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee — The wife of Tennessee senior defensive tackle Mo Couch said there has been no resolution to her husband’s case and no word on when, or if, he will play again.

Stephanie Couch tweeted the update on Friday.

Mo Couch was declared ineligible five weeks ago after a Yahoo Sports report alleged that he and former UT quarterback Tyler Bray received cash payments from Luther Davis. Davis, a former Alabama football player, was allegedly acting as a “concierge” or intermediary between college players and NFL agents and financial advisers.

Tennessee’s only statement on the matter was that the university was investigating the allegations.

Couch, who is married with a child, is from Orlando, Fla., and arrived at UT in 2011 after a stint at Garden City (Kan.) Community College.

In praise of Tyler Bray: Why the Tennessee quarterback could be a steal for an NFL team

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee — As I watched Tyler Bray effortlessly zip passes to his receivers during Tennessee‘s pro day last week, I turned to a media friend and said, “Some NFL team is going to get really lucky, especially if he slips past the second round.”

He agreed. In fact, it’s hard to find someone who has been around the UT football program who doesn’t agree. Bray is a special talent. He’s a rare physical specimen with a great arm. He’s a natural athlete.

Yet there’s a surprising amount of vitriol directed at Bray — and much of it comes from Tennessee fans.

Mel Kiper’s latest on Tennessee prospects Cordarrelle Patterson, Justin Hunter and others

cordarrelle-patterson.jpgKNOXVILLE, Tennessee — ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper said today that he believes Tennessee junior wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson could be a mid-first round NFL draft selection.

If he stays for his senior year, Kiper said, Patterson could go in the top five overall picks.

I’m not an agent or a financial adviser, but that doesn’t seem like much of a choice. My free advice to Patterson is to start getting ready for April’s draft.

Thumbnail image for tyler-bray-brimer.JPG

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee — Derek Dooley says Tyler Bray needs to “man up.”

On that point, the Tennessee quarterback agrees.

The fact that Bray and his head coach used identical language to describe his decision to skip Saturday’s post-game media session suggests there was probably a forceful conversation on Sunday about Bray’s absence.
