KNOXVILLE, Tennessee — Butch Jones is the nation’s fourth-richest coach. For this year anyway.
Jones is ranked No. 4 in USA Today’s newly released salary database. However, as the newspaper points out in the notes, Jones’ total compensation of $4.86 million includes a one-time signing bonus of $500,000 and $1.4 million to be used as a buyout of his contract at Cincinnati.
Jones’ normal base salary of $2.95 million would put him at 18th in the nation, below Nebraska’s Bo Pellini and above Kansas State’s Bill Snyder.
That figure would be seventh-most in the SEC, behind Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin and in front of Missouri’s Gary Pinkel.
