KNOXVILLE, Tennessee — D’Andre Payne, a speedy cornerback from Washington, D.C., became the seventh verbal commitment of Tennessee’s 2014 signing class.
Payne visited UT two weeks ago. He also considered Florida State, Clemson, Vanderbilt and had offers from many others.
Payne is a four-star on 247Sports and the 247Sports composite ranking, which is average of ratings throughout the industry.

He announced his decision on Twitter Wednesday morning.
247Sports credited UT linebackers coach Tommy Thigpen with being his primary recruiter, and Payne also said defensive backs coach Willie Martinez was important in his recruitment.
Of Tennessee’s seven verbal commitments, four are likely to be receivers or defensive backs, two are running backs and one is an offensive lineman.
The Vols are currently ranked sixth in the very early 247Sports Composite team rankings.
