Since it’s July, Tennessee coaches will be fanning out across the country to watch women’s basketball recruits.
This July, one of the coaches will be a world traveler.

The U.S. women’s U19 team includes two players being recruited by Tennessee: A’ja Wilson, a 6-foot-4 forward from Hopkins, S.C., and 6-1 guard Gabby Green from Oakland, Ca. The U.S. will be playing in the World Championship in Lithuania later this month and Lady Vols assistant Jolette Law will be there. Tennessee sophomore forward Bashaara Graves also is on the U.S. team.
Other players either known or believed to be on Tennessee’s summer watch list include:
Jatarie White, 6-4 post, Charlotte, N.C.; McKenzie Calvert, 5-7 PG, Schertz, Texas; Lajahna Drummer, 6-2 F, Inglewood, Ca.; Mikayla Venson, 5-6 PG, Arlington, Va.; Jaime Nared, 6-1 wing, Portland, Ore.; Kelsey Mitchell, 5-9 PG, Cincinnati.
Mitchell’s father, Mark, was hired as an assistant at Ohio State in late May. Therefore, the Buckeyes are the presumed leaders for Mitchell.
— An instagram photo and several tweets heralded the arrival Friday of Lady Vols freshman Mercedes Russell. She and fellow freshmen Jordan Reynolds are both set to enroll Monday in the second session of summer school.
