Salutes to Summitt

Although Pat Summitt wasn’t in attendance Thursday at SEC media day, the former Tennessee women’s basketball head coach had her place in the thoughts of the other league coaches.
Summitt, who’s dealing with early onset dementia Alzheimer’s type, stepped down in April after 38 seasons and was replaced by longtime assistant Holly Warlick.

First impressions

Although Tennessee officially began women’s basketball practice last week, Wednesday felt like opening day to yours truly.
The Lady Vols allowed me to watch 1 1/2 hours of afternoon practice at Pratt Pavilion. The extended viewing afforded me some first impressions of a team that has five first-year players and is transitioning to a faster-paced, defensive-oriented style of play:
