Atomic accidents to be lecture’s focus

MahaffeyPhotoJames Mahaffey, author of two books about nuclear power, will be guest lecturer at the annual Dick Smyser Community Lecture Series on May 26 at the American Museum of Science and Energy.

The topic of his lecture will be “Atomic Accidents: A History of Nuclear Meltdowns and Disasters from the Ozark Mountains to Fukushima.” There will be a reception in the museum lobby at 5:30 p.m., followed by the talk at 6 p.m.

The event is sponsored by Friends of Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Mahaffey, formerly of the Georgia Institute of Technology and later Head of Advanced Research at Nanoventions Inc. in Roswell, Ga., is author of “Atomic Awakening” on the history of nuclear power and “Atomic Accidents: A History of Nuclear Meltdowns and Disasters.”
