An inside look at deteriorating Alpha-5

Much has been written and talked about Y-12’s Alpha-5 building, a former production facility that has become a poster child for the deterioration-in-place that’s occurring at Department of Energy plants around the country. Y-12 put together this video a couple of years ago, and Ken Harrawood of contractor Consolidated Nuclear Security showed it last month at ETEBA’s Business Opportunities Conference in Knoxville. It gives a pretty good feel for the cleanup challenges at the World War II-era facility.
