Morgan McCorkle, a public affairs specialist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory for the past five years, has been named the lab’s media relations manager. McCorkle (pictured, left) will report to Communications Director David Keim. The media relations position has been vacant since Mike Bradley left the lab in 2009. . . . Y-12 contractor Consolidated Nuclear Security has created a Community Investment Fund and will be accepting applications for one-year grants for “projects or programs that address community needs and economic development opportunities.” The grants could range from $500 to $10,000, according to CNS. . . . The Department of Energy postponed the planned closure of Clark Center Park in Oak Ridge for today (Monday, Nov. 30) and Tuesday. The closing of the park and Bull Bluff Road had been intended to do tree removal and other safety-related work, but the rainy weather made that difficult. Work will be rescheduled after the weather clears up, DOE said. . . . The agenda for the Energy Technology and Environmental Business Association’s annual Business Opportunities Conference (Dec. 8-10) has been released and is available online. Among the keynote speakers will be Mark Whitney, the Department of Energy’s principal deputy assistant secretary for environmental management. Whitney formerly was DOE’s Oak Ridge cleanup chief . . .

The Department of Energy’s Office of Inspector General released an audit report that substantiated a number of allegations about the information technology program at DOE’s Energy Information Administration. The concerns included management of IT funds. “Based on these findings, we determined that EIA had not implemented a fully effective IT programs,” the report’s summary stated.
