Y-12 security

Today’s Names and Remembrance Ceremony on the 70th annniversary of the Aug. 6, 1945 bombing of Hiroshima was held across the street from the entrance to the Y-12 nuclear weapons plant, and the security presence was visible.

Asked about security this week at Y-12, with multiple events scheduled including a Saturday protest, here’s what federal spokesman Steven Wyatt said:

“We cannot discuss any specific security plans associated with this particular event. We work closely with the City of Oak Ridge Police Department in planning for protests and will have appropriate security resources on hand to respond if needed. Our goal is the continued safety and security of the plant and the safety of the public.”
