Regalbuto, Elkind confirmed for high-level DOE posts

Monica Regalbuto was confirmed today by the Senate as the Department of Energy’s assistant secretary for environmental management, and Jonathan Elkind was confirmed as DOE’s assistant secretary for international affairs.

In separate statements issued this afternoon, Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz praised the new leaders at the federal agency.

Here’s what he said about Regalbuto: “Having served in both the Office of Environmental Management and the Office of Nuclear Energy, Monica is more than ready for her new role at the Department. Her hands-on experience in all aspects of nuclear waste cleanup and her tenure as an Argonne National Lab scientist have prepared her for the position of Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management.  I thank the Senate for approving Monica’s nomination, and look forward to continuing to work with her on some of the most complex challenges facing the Department.”

Here’s what the secretary said about Elkind:

“Jonathan brings a wealth of experience in international energy issues to the Department.  I thank the Senate for confirming Assistant Secretary Elkind and look forward to continuing my work with him in support of the nation’s global energy agenda.”
