Mark Whitney, the Department of Energy’s acting assistant secretary for environmental managment (and former cleanup chief at Oak Ridge), was at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant on Thursday and took a look-see deep underground where some of the recent problems — a truck fire and release of radioactive materials — occurred.
