Government shutdown? ORNL will report to work

In his message to staff today about job cuts, tight budgets and a new voluntary separation program, Oak Ridge National Laboratory Thom Mason dealt with another topic on people’s minds: a potential stalemate in Washington, D.C., and shutdown of the government.

“Many are wondering about the effect a government shutdown would have on ORNL if Congress cannot agree on a budget by month’s end,” Mason wrote. “As in years past, ORNL has enough funding to continue operations even if federal employees have to stop work on Oct. 1, and all UT-Battelle staff should report to work as usual.”NEW FEATURE: You can sign up for email updates from Atomic City Underground and receive a notice each time new information is posted.
