ORNL Awards — The Whole Shebang

A reader wrote to complain that only Vinod Sikka (scientist of the year) and a couple of other honorees were noted in news item about ORNL Awards Night. Actually, the lab didn’t send out the entire list to the news media, but I requested and got it.
Here’s a cut-and-paste on the whole shebang. Find your friends and neighbors. Enjoy.

Director’s Awards
At each Awards Night, the ORNL Director presents Director’s Awards in three categories for individuals and in one category for teams. Everyone receiving a Director’s Award has already won either an individual or a team category at Awards Night, thus these awards honor those who have won the highest recognition in the Awards Night program.
The awards are determined by the Director’s Awards Committee, headed by the ORNL Director. This committee includes the ORNL Deputy Directors for Science and Technology and for Operations, the Director of Communications and External Relations, and the Director of Human Resources.
The Director’s Award for Outstanding Individual Accomplishment in Science and Technology goes to an honoree selected from all of the categories that recognize individuals in the Science and Technology category of awards. Likewise, the Director’s Awards for Outstanding Individual Accomplishment in Community Service and in Laboratory Operations recognize the outstanding accomplishment in those two areas.
The Director’s Award for Outstanding Team Accomplishment honors the top achievement among all teams that already have won awards at Awards Night.
